Amit Kumar Sharma

Amit Kumar Sharma, Pr. Scientist (Plant Breeding), ICAR – Indian Institute of Wheat & Barley Research,  Karnal is having research experience of more than 17 years in Cropimprovement (Rice/Ramie) including 6 years in Wheat Improvement. Dr. Sharma completed his doctorate degree in Genetics & Plant Breeding from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi on Mutation breeding in urdbean in 2003 and he developed six unique seed and pod colour genetic stocks. He worked on Aerobic rice as project fellow in RWC (CIMMYT/IRRI) project and DST young Scientist during 2003-2009 at SVPUA&T, Meerut. Dr. Sharma joined ICAR as Sr. Scientist (Plant Breeding) at Ramie Research Station (under CRIJAF), Sorbhog, Assam in July 2009. During 2009-2015, he developed maiden ramie variety (Hazarika) in the country and involved in the development of one (1) Mesta (Kenaf) variety.

At ICAR-Indian Institute of Wheat & Barley Research, Dr. Sharma has contributed extensively in Breeder seed production as well as improvement programmes of wheat and Barley and he is involved in the development of Seven (7) wheat, two (2) malt barley varieties and 8 genetic stocks of wheat for different traits of economic importance. He has published his research in across many peer reviewed national and international journals.
