Dr MV Rao Memorial Award 2019

Dr. Jai Praksh Jaiswal, Professor and Incharge (Wheat Programme) at GB Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, Pantnagar is awarded Dr MV Rao Memorial Award 2019 for his outstanding contributions in wheat improvement.

Dr. Jai Praksh Jaiswal was born in the district Varanasi (now Chandauli), Uttar Pradesh.  Prior to joining GB Pant University in 2003 as Associate Professor, he served Mahendra Hybrid Seeds Jalna (1990-92) and UPCAR, Lucknow (1992-2003). As a wheat breeder, he has contributed in the development of 12 improved varieties of wheat and one of barley; 4 novel genetic stocks and developed many germplasm lines possessing resistance to wheat diseases including Ug99 and blast and high quality attributes including high Fe and Zn content through introgression and pyramiding in the background of popular wheat varieties. He established marker assisted breeding facility at the university.

Dr Jaiswal was involved as principal investigator in various national and international network projects funded by ICAR, DBT, BARC, BIRAC and CIMMYT. He is also looking after nucleus seed production of wheat and barley varieties and facilitating breeder seed production programme of the university.  Dr Jaiswal has guided 8 Ph.D. and 9 M.Sc. (Ag.) students as major guide and has also published more than 75 research papers in national and international journals besides other publications.

Dr Jaiswal represented the University in different International conferences/meetings held in Mexico, Russia, Japan, Turkey, Nepal, Australia and Canada. He served as an International consultant to FAO in Myanmar for one month in 2001. Prof. Jaiswal has been honoured with Faculty Excellence Award by GBPUAT, Pantnagar in 2013, Fellow of ISGPB in 2017 and Distinguished Scientist award by Agriculture Technology Development Society, Ghaziabad in 2018.

The Society for Advancement of Wheat & Barley Research (SAWBAR) is honoured to confer Dr. MV Rao Memorial Award 2019 on Dr. Jai Praksh Jaiswal today, the 26th August 2019 on the occasion of the 58th All India Wheat & Barley Research Workers’ Meet at ICAR-IARI, Indore.
