Dr. S. Rajaram Outstanding Woman Scientist Awardee 2020

Dr Neelu Jain Scientist (Plant Breeding), ICAR-Indian Institute of Agricultural Research, New Delhi, is awarded “Dr. S. Rajaram Outstanding Woman Scientist Awardee 2020” for her significant contribution in wheat research. She belongs to Rewari, Haryana and completed her early education at Rewari. She got her doctoral degree in Biotechnology and Molecular Biology from CCSHAU, Hisar in 2003. She is associated in wheat molecular breeding over the last seventeen years.  She has been supporting the wheat breeding team at IARI with the wet lab analysis and with field application and phenotyping. She is associated as a team member in development and release of bread wheat varieties for different wheat agro-ecological zones. She has been involved in a number of international and national multi-institutional research projects which were focused on development of wheat cultivars for drought and heat tolerance and several externally funded projects (DBT, NASF etc) as PI, CCPI and Co-PI. She has been actively involved in the validation and utilization of molecular markers for biotic, abiotic stresses and grain quality traits. Also carrying out basic studies to decipher the mechanism of leaf rust resistance in wheat based on transcriptome and epigenome analysis. She is a faculty member of Genetics at IARI and has been associated as the chairman and member of the advisory committees of several M.Sc. and Ph.D students. She has more than 45 publications in international and national journals of high repute in her career.
