Dr. Satish Kumar

Satish Kumar, Senior Scientist (Plant Breeding) ICAR – Indian Institute of Wheat & Barley Research, is having research experience of more than 12 years in wheat improvement. Dr. Kumar completed his master’s in Plant Breeding & genetics on hybrid wheat research and a doctorate degree in Plant Breeding on wheat end-use quality from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. He joined ICAR – IIWBR (erstwhile DWR) as an ARS Scientist in the field of Plant Breeding in 2009. During the last decade, Dr. Kumar has contributed extensively in the wheat improvement program and has been involved in the development of nine (12) wheat varieties and 18 genetic stocks for different traits of economic importance. He is involved in many institutional and external funded research projects as PI/Co-PI. He has been trained at Cornell University, USA, and the University of Sydney, Australia. He has published his research in many peer-reviewed national and international journals. He has recently been awarded the prestigious ‘Gene Stewardship Award – 2018’ by Borlaug Global Rust Initiative (BGRI).
