Dr. Vikas Gupta

 

Dr. Vikas Gupta, is a wheat breeder at the ICAR-Indian Institute of Wheat and Barley Research, Karnal, Haryana, India. He received his agricultural education from Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (J&K), CCS University, Meerut (UP) and Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana (Punjab). His areas of interest include resistance breeding, Bio-fortification and input use efficiency. As a wheat breeder,  he has developed eight wheat varieties for cultivation in different zones of the country. Apart from that he had developed and registered more than 15  genetic stocks for different traits of agronomic importance. Dr. Gupta also identified QTLs for Karnal bunt, spot blotch, and grain zinc content in wheat-based on genome-wide association mapping studies which are amenable to molecular breeding. Dr. Gupta also worked as a visiting scientist in the Dept. of Crop and Soil Sciences at Washington State University Pullman (USA) in 2015 and also in the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center, Mexico in 2018. Dr. Gupta has published many scientific articles in international and national journals, book chapters, popular articles, and technical bulletins.
