Prof Mahatim Singh Memorial Award 2015

Dr. M.L. Jat is currently working at International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre (CIMMYT) and based at New Delhi, India. After obtaining PhD in Agronomy from IARI, New Delhi, he served ICAR for 12 years as systems agronomist and contributed immensely in developing, adapting and deploying modern agronomic management practices in major cropping. Dr Jat joined CIMMYT’s Global Conservation Agriculture Program in 2009 and contributed to the development & deployment of Conservation Agriculture and Precision Agriculture based management technologies, climate smart agriculture practices (CSAPs) and capacity development to several thousand stakeholders across South Asia for linking science with society. His current responsibility is to coordinate CIMMYT-CCAFS (Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security) South Asia program.

Dr Jat has published his research findings in over 250 peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, etc. He shared his experiences at several international organizations as keynote speaker, lead speaker, chair and co-chair of the events. He served as editor of several national journals. He is member of RAC and QRT of the ICAR Institutes and other bodies. He has guided/guiding 16 PhD and MS students of various Universities.

Dr Jat has received several awards including IPNI Recognition Award, IPNI-FAI award, PS Deshmukh Young Agronomist Award of ISA, Young Soil Conservationist Award of IASWC, Dhiru Morarji Memorial Award, Fellow of NAAS and Fellow of ISA and award of honour from Government of Punjab, India, Colorado State University, USA etc. He also served on a FAO mission to develop CA program for the Government of Bhutan.
