Dr. Vishnu Kumar was born on 24th July 1982 in Bharatpur district of Rajasthan state and is presently working as Scientist at Indian Institute of Wheat and Barley Research, Karnal in Barley Network. He did BSc (Agriculture) and MSc (Genetics & Plant Breeding) from College of Agriculture, Nagpur and PhD (Plant Breeding & Genetics) from MPUA&T, Udaipur. He qualified ICAR National UG entrance test and ICAR Senior Research Fellowship. He was awarded with Gold Medal by MPUA&T, Udaipur for his PhD work. He secured first rank in ARS 2009 (Plant Breeding) and joined ARS services in 2010.
Dr Vishnu, during this short span of six years, contributed extensively in barley breeding programme and his contribution was recognized in development of 03 malt barley varieties and registration of 04 genetic stocks for unique traits with ICAR-NBPGR. He published his research in 36 peer reviewed journal articles, 48 popular articles, 23 leaflets/folders/bulletins, 06 technical reports, 04 book chapters and 03 training manuals.
Dr Vishnu is recipient of number of awards including Gold Medal by MPUA&T, Udaipur, “ICAR- गणेश शंकर विद्यार्थी पुरुस्कार 2014” as co-editor of Hindi magazine “गेहूं एवं जौ स्वर्णिमा”. He was felicitated by PPV&FRA for filing IPR of large number of barley varieties from DUS barley project. He is also recipient of “उत्कृश्ठ वैज्ञानिक” award from ICAR-IIWBR.
